Acrylics

Aquaflame equipment is widely used in the plastic fabrication industry for the flame polishing of transparent thermoplastic acrylic. Acrylic is also known as Plexiglas, Perspex, Poly(methyl methacrylate) PMMA, as well as by the trade names Plexiglas, Acrylite, Lucite, Oroglas, Altuglas, Cryolite Optix, and Perspex . After acrylic is cut, lasered or CNC routed there is often the need to add a final polished edge. Aquaflame is ideally suited to achieve this.

Description

Aquaflame equipment is widely used in the plastic fabrication industry for the flame polishing of transparent thermoplastic acrylic. Acrylic is also known as Plexiglas, Perspex, Poly(methyl methacrylate) PMMA, as well as by the trade names Plexiglas, Acrylite, Lucite, Oroglas, Altuglas, Cryolite Optix, and Perspex . After acrylic is cut, lasered or CNC routed there is often the need to add a final polished edge. Aquaflame is ideally suited to achieve this.

Aquaflame equipment uses a standard electrical supply to produce hydrogen and oxygen by the electrolysis of distilled water. It produces a highly efficient, completely safe, low cost heat source.

Gas is only produced on demand. This eliminates the need for storing dangerous pressurized gas bottles. The only by product other than energy is water. The flame is clean, safe and environmentally friendly.

Whilst not replacing the need for diamond edge polishing and other mechanical finishing operations, the Aquaflame is ideal for polishing straight or curved edges, internal sections and organic shapes. In addition it will smooth off sharp diamond polished acrylic, add a final finishing touch to laser cut material and polish CNC routed components. Also of interest is that the Aquaflame can be used for eliminating scratches that have occurred on the acrylic surface and that would otherwise render a piece scrap.

Aquaflames are used in a variety of Acrylic Flame Polishing applications including acrylic sign making, acrylic model making, acrylic point of sale displays and many other acrylic applications. The increased strength and safety of Perspex® acrylic means it can be used in wide variety of commercial industries and professions, including:

Protective glass in banks, Sports stadiums, Restaurants and catering, Flooring, Aquariums, Music venues, Film and TV sets, Trade fair stands, Theatres, Sound barriers. The other benefit of an Aquaflame is to remove scratches in Acrylic so it can be used as a maintenance / repair tool as well as on new product.

There is no complex set up prior to polishing. Once the initial fill has been completed on installation simply switch on and start polishing. Operators can be speedily trained and daily maintenance is minimal.

The equipment is portable, safe and reliable.

Such has been the success in Europe and USA almost every acrylic fabricator now sees an Aquaflame flame polisher as an essential addition to the workshop.

Acrylic Polishing

It is possible to remove scratches from Acrylic using the Aquaflame Fame Polishing Torch. There is some skill required in learning how to remove the scratch without damaging the surface but in many cases this is a great added feature of the Aquaflame Flame polishing Torch which can really save the day.

* While the Aquaflame will produce a flame up to 3300°C, we do not recommend using it without MEK. MEK gives the most stable flame at a temperature of about 1850°C

Aquaflame in industry

Overview

AQF Machine

Aquaflame is also referred to as:
A water torch, micro weld, mini Solder/Welder, micro flame, aqua torch, hydro flame, oxy hho.

Aquaflame machines are high performance oxyhydrogen gas-generating units producing a high temperature precision flame – in the range of 1200-3300°C * (2192-5972°F) used for soldering and welding items.

Using a standard electrical supply, hydrogen and oxygen are produced by the electrolysis of distilled water so that the hydrogen can be burnt in the oxygen. The oxyhydrogen gas is passed through an MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) solution which reduces the temperature to about 1850°C and transforms the flame to a blueish yellow colour. The flame is a highly controllable and efficient high energy heat source. The only product of this process, other than energy, is water. The Aquaflame is safe as it only produces gas as required; it is also efficient, clean and environmentally friendly.
